Netball after school - Stay and play

Not only have we reached the end of the fabulous 2011 FNB Netball Classic Clashes, many of you have reached the end of your schooling career. Now what happens to your netball?

Those of you planning to study at University or College should find structured and well organised netball setups; make sure that you join the club.

If you are planning to start a career you will need to find a netball club near you. It’s not easy juggling between a job, maybe distance learning and playing netball, but you can do it!

Finding a netball club

Post school netballers are drawn to good organisation and want to be part of a structured netball programme so make sure that you find a club that is well run.

Facebook, Twitter and other social media is a great platform to start from should you find yourself in a new area. I spotted folk looking for netball clubs, as well as clubs ‘advertising’ for players on Gumtree.

Netball South Africa is another great starting point. Visit http://www.netball-sa.co.za/ for details.

Starting a club

If all else fails speak to Netball South Africa on how to start your own club!

And if that’s not possible, try getting a community netball club going, where you can make a difference in young girls lives. I came across a manual giving high level guidelines on how to start a community sports club, http://www.toolkitsportdevelopment.org/html/

Whatever you do, don’t give up on the great game of netball.

I met up with some of the ‘Golden Girls’ of netball South Africa, now in their 70s and 80s, at the SPAR National Championships during August, all looking fabulous and very young at heart. That’s what netball can do for you! So keep playing. It’s better than any anti-wrinkle product out there!

Until next time

Pass it on, Netty
