Have you guys seen the frist Top 20 Ranking for 2009?
Waterkloof top of the list? You guys agree or disagree?
I just wandering if CC gets all the school results in time...where is Westville Boys High Schools results & fixture? WBHS beaten Kearsney College, Hilton, Michaelhouse, Voortrekker (PMB), all games in Namibie and 1 out of 3 at KES.
I disagree. Up till the start of the Paarl Gim festival, Waterkloof have not played any of the big guns. It seems that the ranking maths does not take that into account.
It has to be difficult to produce the first top 20 list. The question is not how right the list is but how wrong it is.
It is clear from the list that there is bias towards certain schools.
Isn't it better to take the top 20 list from last year and then use that as the basis for compiling the new list?
I think it is also going to make much more sense to have a top 20 for each province. In this way one can start to get a true picture. A national top 20 is almost meaningless because schools have such different playing schedules.
My gut for the top teams this year (in no particular order) are:
Grey Bloem
Affies
Monument
Paarl Roos
Paarl Boys
Outeniqua
Bishops
Grey PE
Selborne
St Andrews
Waterkloof
Centurion
Dr EG Jansen
Glenwood
Wynberg
Noord Kaap
KES are not in the league of the above schools. They have not played any serious away games and the only two good results they have are Marlow and Pretoria Boys High School (both at home and both by narrow margins).
I disagree... where are all the tops schools like Westville Boys High? They have beaten Michaelhouse, Hilton, Kearsney, Windhoek High, HTS Windhoek & Walvisbay on tour. They have beaten Voortrekker & Pretoria Boys High & played against 2 club u/20 sides and was victorious in the matches. They have only lost against Marlow & Rondebosch, So I just wondering where if CC gets all there results?
Hi Hanelie
We get all our results from Primedia (Rugby365.com).
I will send your comments onto them.
Will keep you posted.
Unfortunately I do not know what the rankings maths currently looks like. In my opinion the following aspects /criteria should be part of the calculations.
1. Schools to be categorised (1: 2: 3 etc) according to the ave number of boys playing rugby per year and/or long term performances. Ranking points awarded on "weight" according to the win/loss against a specific category of school. This measurement can also take into account when school A's second teams plays school B's first team.
2. Not only the firs team's results should be taken into account for ranking points. Also look at number of teams fielded on average per day, points scored in total by all teams together on the field "for" & "against" as well as number of matches won/loss on the day.
The above will ensure a ranking based on the school's entire rugby strength and not only the first team. This way money will have almost no influence on the ranking results.
Hi There, where can I find the rankings?
